BMW UK has applied to expand its part distribution factory in Northampton by 150,000 square ft in a move that will create 70 new jobs.

Aftersales director at BMW Group UK, Richard Price, said: “The proposed extension will give us the opportunity to expand the capacity of our Pineham facility in line with our growth aspirations and we expect 70 new jobs to be created over the next 10 years taking the total number of jobs at the facility to around 270.”

The distribution centre at Pineham is currently predicted to dispatch around six million part lines for overnight delivery to BMW and Mini retailers this year alone.

The borough council’s cabinet member for enterprise and planning, Councillor Tim Hadland, said: “Distribution remains a key strand of Northampton’s economy, and it’s extremely gratifying to see prestige brands such as BMW investing more in the town.

“This development fits in well with the ethos of our Northampton Alive programme of regeneration, which has seen unprecedented levels of investment in the town’s businesses and infrastructure.”
